Our Philanthropies

Heart to Heart

and
Hand To Hand
The Delta Phi Epsilon Educational Foundation was established in 1967 in honor of our Fiftieth Anniversary. Through grants and loans, the Foundation assists members and their children to complete their education or continue with graduate studies. The Educational Foundation also provides funding for educational programs and leadership training for undergraduate members and advisors.

The mission of the foundation is to support the purpose of the sorority by:
  • Assisting members through scholarships and grants.
  • Supporting educational programs to develop leadership, study, social, and other group and individual skills.
  • Encouraging unselfish service and philanthropic giving.

The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, the official philanthropy of the Sorority since 1958, is the recipient of funds raised by chapters to support research to find a cure for CF and to improve the quality of life for the 30,000 children and young adults with disease. In 1992 scientists described the gene that, when mutated, causes CF; however, a cure for CF has not yet been found. In appreciation of the Sorority's fundraising efforts, the CFF named a research fellowship in honor of Delta Phi Epsilon.

Over one million dollars has been raised to date for the CFF through Delta Phi Epsilon.

Tate's Totes are bags filled with various items that make an extended hospital stay more comfortable for children with cystic fibrosis (CF) and their parents. Tate's Totes are given to local Cystic Fibrosis Foundation (CFF) Care Centers to distribute to patients. At Convention 2006, Delta Phi Epsilon announced its official partnership with the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. This official partnership cements a relationship that spans the last 48 years, in which Delta Phi Epsilon has raised more than one million dollars for the fight to cure CF. To support this partnership and build service in our sisterhood, all chapters are encouraged to participate in the Tate's Totes philanthropy project.

The Edith Barash Stern Fund, established in honor of our past President, supports philanthropic efforts as chosen by Grand Chapter at Convention. By tradition, the interests of our young women are served, and since 1985, The National Association of Anorexia Nervosa and Associated Disorders (ANAD) has been an additional recipient of our fund raising efforts. ANAD is a national organization dedicated to alleviating problems of anorexia and other eating disorders.

Its methods include education, newsletters, counseling, self-help groups, and providing funds for research. Delta Phi Epsilon is the only one of 26 National Panhellenic Council Sororities to sponsor an organization whose sole purpose is to alleviate eating disorders. The ANAD Candlelight Vigil as been selected as Delta Phi Epsilon's International Service Day Event, in order to raise awareness of dangers of eating disorders. Chapters and alumnae associations throughout the United States and Canada host ANAD Candlelight Vigils. ANAD and Delta Phi Epsilon will work together to provide each chapter with resources to assist with hosting a vigil and for offering additional educational programs on eating disorders. Materials for the event, including presentation and event ideas, educational materials about eating disorders, and the ANAD Pledge to "Accept Yourself...Accept Others," will be sent to chapters in time for that years ANAD Candlelight Vigil.

For more information on the ANAD Candlelight Vigil, please contact Tiffany Neal at Delta Phi Epsilon's International Headquarters or visit ANAD's website at www.anad.org. For educational information on eating disorders, please visit The ABC's of Eating Disorders at http://www.zakto.com/abc/.

Aside from these and locally designated philanthropies, Delta Phi Epsilon members participate in campus events in support of their host educational institutions. Sisters are encouraged to participate in hands-on community service activities that will benefit their local communities. Delta Phi Epsilon manifests a social conscience and a willingness to think in terms of service for the common good. Our sorority aims to develop women who will be contributing members of society through philanthropic and community service experiences.
